When a parent is called to serve, your whole family adjusts to many new experiences, the first of which are the different stages of pre-deployments and deployments. As you try these suggested ideas, note the ones that work for your family so you can use them again as the need arises.
Pre-Deployments
Advance planning and communication, along with a big dose of reassurance, will go a long way in helping everyone navigate the period of time before the service member leaves.
During Deployments
Things change again once a parent has been deployed. You’ll find yourself creating new routines and adjusting to the different circumstances. But your family will adjust – and take pride in doing so.
Express Yourself!
Transitions such as deployments can bring a lot of emotional adjustments for your child. Help your child express what she feels about the deployment and reassure her that together as a family, you can do it!
